Asking for a second opinion can feel like doubting your doctor. It isn’t. Good doctors welcome it — and the evidence shows why it matters, especially before major surgery or cancer treatment.
What the evidence says
| Refined diagnosis | 66% |
|---|---|
| Completely different diagnosis | 21% |
| Confirmed | 12% |
Mayo Clinic, Journal of Evaluation in Clinical Practice, 4 April 2017.
The study looked at patients referred from primary care to Mayo Clinic’s general internal medicine division. It is one study, from one centre — but its message is simple: a careful second look often changes the plan.
When a second opinion matters most
- Before any major or irreversible surgery — spine, heart, joints, transplants.
- After a cancer diagnosis, before treatment starts.
- When symptoms don’t match the diagnosis, or treatment isn’t working.
- When you are offered an expensive or experimental treatment.
How we do it
Every BookMedTrip US$99 consultation includes two calls: a follow-up with the same specialist, or a second opinion from a different one. Send your reports, scans and slides; we organise and translate them, and you speak to specialists in Chandigarh by video — before anyone books a flight.
- Send reports on WhatsApp or email.
- Speak to a specialist by video.
- Use your second call: follow up, or compare a second doctor.
- Decide — at home, in India, or not at all.
