Why BookMedTrip matters for patients from the Maldives

Spread across hundreds of islands, the Maldives cannot offer every specialty at home, so the Aasandha scheme funds treatment abroad, with most empanelled overseas hospitals in India. Maldivian patients most often come for heart, orthopaedic, neurology and cancer care, valuing India's closeness and lower cost.

Visa

Maldivian citizens can visit India visa-free for up to 90 days, including for medical treatment, under the 2018 Visa Facilitation Agreement restored in October 2021. Longer stays need a medical visa from the Indian High Commission in Malé.

Always confirm on the official Indian visa portal before you apply.

Air India flies non-stop Malé-Delhi twice a week (FlightConnections, Nov 2026); other days connect through Indian hubs. Delhi to Chandigarh is a one-hour flight.

Questions patients from Maldives ask

How do patients from Maldives travel to Chandigarh?

Most fly from Malé to Delhi, then take a one-hour flight to Chandigarh (IXC). Some routes connect through the Gulf. We plan flights, airport pick-up and stay for you.

Do patients from Maldives need a medical visa for India?

Yes — apply for an e-Medical visa on the official portal, indianvisaonline.gov.in, with a letter from the treating hospital. Up to two family members can travel on e-Medical Attendant visas.

Can I speak to a doctor before I travel?

Yes. Our US$99 specialist consultation includes two calls — a follow-up with the same doctor or a second opinion from another — before you decide anything.
