Before You Fly: Records, Tests and Medicines Checklist

Good preparation saves days in hospital and spares you surprises. Four to six weeks before you travel, work through this checklist with us — most of it can be done from home, on WhatsApp.
1. Your Medical Records
Scan every page clearly (a phone scanner app is fine) and name each file with the date and the test, for example 2026-09-14 MRI knee report.pdf. Send them to your coordinator — the specialist reads them before your video consultation.
| Bring | Why |
|---|---|
| Doctor's letters and the current diagnosis | So the specialist understands the history |
| Scan reports and the images (CD, USB or a download link) | Specialists want to see the images, not only the report |
| Recent blood tests | Usually from the last three months — your specialist will say |
| Biopsy and pathology reports; slides or blocks for cancer | A second look at pathology can change the plan |
| Previous operation notes and discharge summaries | Helps the surgical and anaesthesia teams |
| A list of allergies and current medicines | Essential for safe anaesthesia and prescribing |
2. Tests Your Specialist May Ask For
Depending on your age and condition, the team may ask for an ECG, an echocardiogram, blood counts, kidney and liver function, blood sugar and clotting tests before surgery. Some can be done at home; others are better done on arrival in India. We tell you which, so nothing is repeated without reason.
3. Your Medicines
- Carry enough for the whole stay plus a margin, in the original packaging, in your hand luggage.
- Bring a copy of each prescription, with the generic (chemical) name of the medicine.
- Tell us about blood thinners, insulin and medicines for diabetes, blood pressure or the immune system — the surgical team may need to adjust them before an operation.
- If any medicine is a controlled drug (for example strong painkillers or sleeping tablets), ask us before you travel about the letter and limits that apply.
4. Vaccinations and Health Checks for Travel
See a travel clinic in your country. Some travellers arriving from certain countries must show a yellow fever vaccination certificate — check the current list for your nationality. Ask your own doctor whether you are fit to fly, especially after a recent illness or operation.
5. Practical Things That Matter
- Passport valid with room to spare, and your medical visa approved
- Flexible or changeable flight tickets — recovery doesn't always follow a calendar
- Travel insurance that suits a medical trip
- A way to pay in India — international cards work widely; read our guide to UPI
- An Indian SIM or eSIM, arranged on arrival if you wish
- Comfortable, loose clothing and slip-on shoes for after treatment
- If your pet is coming, start early — see bringing your pet to India
