Panchakarma is Ayurveda’s set of cleansing therapies. It is prepared with oil massage and steam (snehana and swedana), and its main procedures include vamana, virechana, basti and nasya. An Ayurveda doctor chooses what suits you; nothing is one-size-fits-all.

From$45*for a 3-day introduction

A gentle start before you commit to a full course. See the terms*.

What a Stay Looks Like

  • Day 1: consultationThe Ayurveda doctor reviews your history, medicines and goals, and plans therapies that suit you.
  • Days 1–3: therapiesTypically abhyanga (oil massage), swedana (herbal steam) and, where suitable, shirodhara.
  • Food and restSimple, warm meals and early nights are part of the treatment.
  • A full courseUsually 7–21 days, planned and quoted in writing only if you want to continue.

Who It May Suit

  • People who want a structured rest and reset after illness or long stress
  • Patients recovering after treatment in India, once their doctor agrees
  • Anyone curious about Ayurveda who wants a doctor-led introduction

Who Should Not, or Should Ask First

  • Pregnant women, and anyone within weeks of surgery
  • People with heart, kidney or liver disease, or uncontrolled blood pressure or diabetes
  • Anyone taking blood thinners or many prescription medicines

Ayurveda complements medical care; it does not replace it. Keep taking your prescribed medicines unless your own doctor says otherwise.

Visa

India has an Ayush (AY) visa for foreign nationals coming for treatment under Ayurveda, Yoga and other Indian systems of medicine, with an attendant category for family. It can be applied for on paper or through the e-Visa portal. We prepare the centre’s letter.

*Terms for the $45 introductory session: an introduction to Panchakarma over 3 consecutive days at a partner Ayurveda centre, at times the centre sets. It includes the therapies the Ayurveda doctor considers safe for you on those days. It does not include the doctor’s first consultation if the centre charges for it, medicines or oils to take home, stay, meals, transport or a full Panchakarma course (usually 7–21 days, quoted separately). You must complete a health questionnaire first; the doctor may decline or change therapies, for example in pregnancy, after recent surgery, or with heart, kidney or uncontrolled blood-pressure problems. Subject to availability at the centre and to change. Prices are per person, in US dollars, paid online only.
