What Families Forget Before Travelling for Treatment

The small things that cause big problems: documents, medicines, who decides, food, money, and the people who stay at home.

Documents

  • A passport valid for at least six months, the medical visa and the hospital’s invitation letter
  • Every report and scan, on paper and in a folder you can open from your phone
  • A list of medicines with their generic names, not only brand names

Medicines for the Journey

Carry enough for the trip plus a week, in original packs, with a doctor’s letter.

Who Decides If the Patient Cannot?

Agree who speaks for the patient, and bring written consent if your country requires it.

The Companion

India issues medical attendant visas for family members travelling with a patient. Companions also need comfortable shoes, a phone that works in India, and time to rest.

Money

Cards, a little local currency for small purchases, and a clear understanding of what is paid to whom. Pay hospitals and BookMedTrip only through official channels — never cash to an individual.

Food and Faith

Halal, vegetarian, Jain or a special diet: tell us early. We can find places of worship near the hospital.

Home

Who looks after children, parents, pets and bills while you are away, and who meets you at the airport when you return?
